DVaAD- Recognizing Camera Movements

Directing is creating a whole. You’re able to combine different elements and create a film that is unique and true to your vision.

– Tim Robbins

How do we Capture a Moment?

Part 1

Make sure you have a firm understanding of different camera movements. If you didn’t find any videos on them, you probably want to make sure you know what they look like. Even without youtube, you can still find some decent videos on camera movements.

Part 2

Get in a group of 2 to 5 people. Review the different camera movements. Make sure you all understand the different types of camera movements. Did anyone find any camera movements that their peers didn’t find?

Part 3

Choose at least 2 videos:

Culture of Dallas
Eight Hours in Brooklyn

Life in Haiti
Lost in Tokyo

Pay attention to camera movement in these videos. Decide the dominant camera movement used through out the majority of the short film. Be ready to discuss your groups opinions with the class.
