How do we convey feeling?
For this six weeks, we’ll be primarily using Photoshop. In the new version of Photoshop CS6, Video has been added to its capabilities (albeit it was already available in previous versions if you had the extended nversion). They also made a lot of upgrades to what you can do with video in PS. Photoshop, most of the time, however is not used for video, and what you can do with it has a very broad range of applications.
Due by the end of this week!
Your project for this six weeks is related to experimental video. You’ll have to come up with several different ideas for experimental videos. This could be related to Expressionism, Futurism, Avant Garde, or even other styles of Experimental Video we didn’t talk about. I’ll continue to post examples up as we go through this six weeks.
Photoshop needs to be utilized for a significant part of your project.
This will be our first project done in the proper IB MYP Style. Each stage of the Design Cycle is 1/6th of the final grade on an IB Project. This may sound concerning at first, but as you get more used to it, it shouldn’t be. If your a student who works and who tries, its actually a way that really protect your grade if something goes wrong. Many of you are still new to this. So we aren’t going to do everything just yet. We’ll ease into it so you get more comfortable with it in time. I’ve used the strikethrough font style to demonstrate what we aren’t doing yet, but the IB expects us to on at least a few projects this year.
You can see the Criterion by which IB looks at technology projects at any time here. So, to get maximum points on the first part (Investigate), IB states the following should be fulfilled.
“Problem is explained and investigated and its relevance discussed. Information from a broad range of appropriate, acknowledged sources
is evaluated. Detailed methods of testing to evaluate the solution against the design specification is described.”
So, what exactly, does this mean? Let’s break it down.
“Problem is explained and investigated and its relevance discussed.”
Essentially, explain the task you’ve been given, and why it is relevant.
“Information from a broad range of appropriate, acknowledged sources
Do research, keep track of your sources, acknowledge
and discuss the sources you utilize.
Detailed methods of testing to evaluate the solution against the design specification is described.” Describe how you may test your project to ensure it meets the specifics for your design.
At various times during the year, you will have other options. This six weeks, you have two other options.
The first option is working with Ms. McKend on an IB Video.
The second option is creating and submitting a video entry into the Reflections Contest.
