How do we convey feeling?
For this six weeks, we’ll be primarily using Photoshop. In the new version of Photoshop CS6, Video has been added to its capabilities (albeit it was already available in previous versions if you had the extended nversion). They also made a lot of upgrades to what you can do with video in PS. Photoshop, most of the time, however is not used for video, and what you can do with it has a very broad range of applications.
Pitch for Current Project
Due by the end of class today
2-Column Script & Storyboards
Photoshop must be utilized for a significant portion of your video. You can choose to use iMovie in conjunction with that if you so choose.
As you research, you should be thinking about what you want to do. That is, preparing your pitch. You should have a pitch ready by the end of class today, and by the end of next class, I’m asking for your script and storyboard. There are storyboard templates toward the front of the room.
In experimental video, a two column script is more common and appropriate. Essentially, a two column script has two columns, one for the audio and one for the visual. This allows better description of what the visuals should look like for each scene. These are often used in short productions, including commercials.
Of course, you can present your storyboard and script to me earlier if you have them done early, and you probably shouldn’t wait until November 2nd to start thinking about filming.
You can see the Criterion by which IB looks at technology projects at any time here. So, to get maximum points on the third part (Plan), IB states the following should be fulfilled.
“A plan with containing detailed logical steps and describes the use of resources and time is produced. Critical evaluation of the plan is conducted. Modifications to the plan are justified.”
So, what exactly, does this mean? Let’s break it down.
“A plan with containing detailed logical steps
and describes the use of resources and timeis produced.”
This consists of your script, storyboard,
gantt chart, and intention to use any other materials.
Critical evaluation of the plan is conducted.” At the project’s end, evaluate how well your plan was followed.
“Modifications to the plan are justified.”
Explain & defend any changes made to your plan.
See Previous two posts for information regarding Criteria for your Design & Investigation (research) stages.
At various times during the year, you will have other options. This six weeks, you have two other options.
The first option is working with Ms. McKend on an IB Video.
The second option is creating and submitting a video entry into the Reflections Contest.
