If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.
This class isn’t focused on a vast amount of content, but rather spending a lot of time on the content we focus on. While it is not intensive in facts or details, it is work intensive in utilizing and applying skills. The goal is for you to gain the ability to manipulate your knowledge and ability to create a wide array of products. If you put your mind to it, you may find you can accomplish more than you expect.
Your first computer-based assignment will be to create a blog. You may find this a bit uninteresting at first, as many of you are quite familiar with Blogger. I’m not asking you to use Blogger. While there are a lot of cool things you can do with it, most of you are already more than familiar with it.
Students in Digital Video, Digital Art, Digital Design, and Robotics will be making a blog through WordPress. Why WordPress? Well… as previously mentioned, most of you already know Blogger and those of you that don’t, you’ll probably use it in another class. WordPress is another great way to blog. In fact, a lot of companies are using WordPress in disguise for their websites. In the gallery below, all of these ‘websites’ are actually WordPress sites/blogs.
WordPress is highly customizable, as you’ll see when you start looking at themes. As we are using free accounts, and aren’t uploading a WordPress to our own server, we are limited on the amount of customization. However, there’s still quite a lot we can do with it. See some of WordPress.com’s Features. You can, of course, use the computer’s browser to update your WordPress, but they can also be updated using mobile devices and other methods. When you have created your WordPress blog, email me your url. Make sure you don’t release personal information that could be used to identify you. I’ll let you know if I received your email by replying back to you once I’ve verified your url worked.
If you get stuck or need help, let me know!
